The Boulevard at NoDa represents an opportunity seized.

NoDa is short-hand for the North Davidson arts district of Charlotte, NC. Long known for its art galleries and the crowds it draws during First and Third Friday Gallery Crawls, NoDa nevertheless lacked a great retail presence – until a young gallery owner discovered that the wonderful, quirky old building next door had suddenly become available for new business.

Once the word got out, Allison Wolf Hertzler and business partner Kathleen Gill had only 24 hours to make a decision. Believing in the viability of the arts district and trusting in her judgment that the area would support a retail marketplace, they took a leap of faith and signed a contract in the early part of May 2006.

Within a few short weeks and with a lot of sweat equity, the industrial building’s dusty old brick walls and muddied concrete floor were transformed into a charming indoor Boulevard lined with shops of clothing, artwork, handbags and jewelry, items for home décor, gifts for pets, and much, much more. The Boulevard at NoDa was open June 1, 2006.

With a year and half under the belt it was time for the Boulevard at NoDa to make some big changes. Beginning with bringing on a new partner, Cindy Harris, current Boulevard retailer and owner of Meow & Fetch. Together Harris and Wolf put on their paint clothes and tool belts and began to reinvent the Boulevard into what it is today.

From the moment its doors opened in June 2006, The Boulevard has become the place for shoppers seeking new and unusual items – gifts for themselves and others – created and displayed by artisans, craftsmen, and artfully imaginative shop-keepers.
